Do you enjoy playing puzzle games? Specifically, the kind that requires you to match three similar items to eliminate them from the board, like Candy Crush? Then you’ll love Bejeweled Champions, a free-to-play match-3 game that lets you play for fun and money.
Free bejeweled games have been around long before the smartphone era. At the time, you could only play them on PC or gaming consoles, but over the years, more and more mobile variations of this popular tile-matching game became available for iPhone and Android device users. Bejeweled Champions is a product of that evolution.
As I mentioned earlier, you can play this version of the game for real money rewards. So what’s the game like? More importantly, how can you play to win money? Here’s what you need to know.
Bejeweled Champions overview
Bejeweled Champions is a fun puzzle game developed by PopCap Games, a subsidiary of Electronic Arts. It involves a match-3 game setup — you’ll be matching jewels (or gems) of at least three of a kind to eliminate them from the board and score points.
The game was released in September 2020 as the replacement for Bejeweled 2, another popular bejeweled game available on the WorldWinner app. The game's visuals are completely different from Bejeweled 2, but it reuses some of its music and sound effects.
That being said, it’s important not to confuse Bejeweled Champions for Bejeweled 3 just because it succeeded Bejeweled 2. Though also developed by PopCap Games, Bejeweled 3 is different from Bejeweled Champions and was followed by Bejeweled Blitz to Bejeweled Stars, the first to debut on smart devices.
In any case, Bejeweled Champions is available to play on web browsers and the WorldWinner and
Swagbucks apps. Up to four players can play the game, each competing to score more points than the other players to win. However, only two players max can play in the practice mode.
Gameplay
The goal of Bejeweled Champions is to arrange the same gem types into lines of at least three in a row or column. The longer the line, the higher the points that you score. Usually, getting four or more of the same type of gem in the same row/column will result in special gems and boosts that let you score bonus points.
If you’re playing in a cash event, you’ll want to score as many points as possible in 3 minutes. Once this time is up, the scores are tallied, and the player with the top score is the winner.
Playing Bejeweled Champions
When playing for the first time, the game will provide a brief walkthrough to help you get familiar with the gameplay. If you’ve already played similar games, such as Bejeweled Classic, Jewel Legend, Candy Crush, or Jewel Quest, then it shouldn't be hard to play Bejeweled Champions because it pretty much follows the same style of play.
The game starts with several colorful gems randomly placed on an 8x8 grid board. Scan the board for two adjacent gems horizontally or vertically and then switch their places on the board to create a line of 3 or more identical gems.
Simply tap or click on a gem to select it, and It will be highlighted, then swap its position with the tile that makes the match. The gems disappear if the match is made, and you are awarded points. If the swap doesn't result in a match, an error sound will play, and the gems will swap back to their original positions.
If you tap on a gem and then change your mind, simply tap on it again to deselect it. You won’t lose points for this, but it can impact your game time.
Once the matched gems are eliminated from the board, the remaining gems fall to fill in the empty spots, while new ones are brought in from the top of the screen, so at all times, there are 64 randomly placed gems on the board.
Using boosts to enhance your gameplay
When you make a line of four matching gems, one will remain on the board as a special gem. Match this special gem in another line, which will blow up all the surrounding gems.
Another type of special gem that you can create is the Star Gem, which requires you to make two conjoined — L or T shape — matches. Use this special gem in a match, and it will take out all the gems in its vertical and horizontal lines.
Last but certainly not least is the HyperCube, which can be obtained by matching five identical gems. When swapped, HyperCubes will eliminate all gems of the same color from the board.
Game scoring
You get 10 points for every successful match. If you make multiple matches from a single move, either by switching gems to make simultaneous matches or as a chain reaction of new gems set into the empty spaces after a match has been eliminated, you’ll get bonus points on top of the base points.
You also get massive points boosts from special gems, so try to make as many as possible during the game. In many cases, they’re the difference between a win and a loss in the game.
Keep in mind that while it’s possible to pause a game in progress, you only get a max of three minutes when playing cash game modes. If you’re playing classic mode against AI, you can pause anytime with no duration limit.

The bottom line
Bejeweled Champions is a fun tile-matching game you can play for money or fun. Either way, I enjoyed the seamless gaming experience, though I can’t say I’m surprised, seeing as it is under the Electronic Arts family. Naturally, this also lends to Bejeweled Champions’ credibility as a legit game.
It’s a great way to pass your free time, and you can start winning money and reward points as soon as your account is set up.
However, I will say that playing this game cannot replace your primary income source. This is a casual side hustle that can make you money in your spare time. Still, a few dollars and gift cards now and then are infinitely better than zero dollars and no gift cards.
